The Sandy Point Half Marathon is held along the streets of Melbourne’s iconic bayside, starting at Green Point, Brighton. Held on Sunday 9 September 2018, the event offers three distances (Half-Marathon, 10k, 5k) and a bonus 3k kids run as you run along Beach Road. Stunning views of Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay will help you stay motivated to cross the finish line.

The Sandy Point Half Marathon 2018 course is a IAAF-AIMS Certified Course.

Distances & Times

EVENT START TIMES:

  • Half Marathon – 7:40am
  • 10km – 7:10am
  • 5km – 8:15am
  • 3km Kids Run – 9:30am

Please note event start times are subject to change.

 

PREFERRED START: 

Any participant who plans on running under 4min per K for any distance can apply for a preferred start (placed at the front of the pack). Please email Thomas@solemotive.com to apply.

 

CLUB / GROUP WAVES:

If your club/group like to start their race together they can arrange for a club / group wave. Please email Thomas@solemotive.com to arrange your club/group wave.

Pricing and Entry Information

*Race Weekend Entries: Register at the event site (Green Point, Brighton) at the Entries Marquee on Saturday, 8 September from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm OR on Sunday, 9 September from 5:45 am.

 

Event Timetable

What are my options if I cannot participate?

 

 

 

You do not have to notify Sole Motive, the organiser if you are unable to run for any reason.

However, there are no refunds for non-starters or non-finishers. We do offer a credit note, or you can change your distance. If you would like to change your distance please email info@solemotive.com.  If you would like to withdraw and would like a credit note (minus $10 for administration fees) please email info@solemotive.com by 5:00pm Friday 31 August 2018. After this time no credit notes will be offered.  Credit notes are valid for Sole Motive events only and are valid for 1 year from the date of issue.

Please note: Credit notes will not be issued when downgrading distances.

AGE LIMITS

The following age limits apply for each distance at the Sandy Point Half Marathon:

  • Half Marathon – Participants must be 16 years + on race day
  • 10K – All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a guardian. The child’s guardian must be entered in the event.
  • 5K – All children under the age of eight must be accompanied by a guardian. The child’s guardian must be entered in the event.
  • 3K Kids Run – 4 years old to 14 years old will be accepted in the event. Children aged 5 years and under (on Sunday, 9 September 2018) must be accompanied around the course by a guardian. Guardians do not need to enter the 3K Kids run event and can participate free of charge.

Come down to Green Point, Brighton on Saturday, 8 September for a FREE information session with a specialty run coach. Focusing on nutrition, course advice, pacing and race day tips. Time and coach to be announced.

MARATHON-PHOTOS

Marathon-Photos will be on the course and at the finish line at Run Melbourne capturing your race day moments. Look for their cameras and be sure to show your race number and smile!

After the event, visit the marathon-photos website, search for ‘Sandy Point Half Marathon and enter your surname or bib number to go straight to your online album and choose from a range of great products.

 

RACE PACK INFORMATION

Race Pack Postage and Collection

There are three options to collect your race kit:

Option 1 – Postage: If you wish to have your race pack posted to you, you must register before 11:59pm, Sunday 26th August. Please note, a delivery fee of $8.95 applies.

Option 2 – Pickup from Sole Motive:

If you wish to “collect from the Sole Motive store”, you must register before 11:59pm, Tuesday 28th August. Race packs will be available for collection from 10:00am, Thursday 30th August until Midday on Friday 7th September 2018.

Option 3 – Pickup on race day:

EVENT MERCHANDISE COLLECTION

You have the following options to collect the official Sandy Point Half Marathon merchandise:

OPTION 1 – Collect from Sole Motive store (170 Queen St, Melbourne)

If you wish to “collect from the Sole Motive store”, you must have purchased your event merchandise before 11:59pm, Tuesday 28th August. It will be available for collection from 10:00am, Thursday 30th August until Midday on Friday 7th September 2018.

 

OPTION 2 – Collect on Race Day 

If you wish to collect your event merchandise from the event site, you can at the RACE PACK COLLECTION marquee on Saturday 8th September 2018 between 2:00pm and 5:00pm or alternatively on the morning of the event from 5.45am.

RACE DAY INFORMATION

Warm Up


An aerobics warm-up will commence 20 minutes prior to the start of each race and will be led by the team at Vision Personal Training. 

Clothing storage


Clothing storage is available during the run/walk. Your race number features a tear-off strip for you to attach to your backpack or clothing bag (plastic bags are available if needed). Do not leave any valuables in the clothing bags as we cannot accept responsibility for valuables lost or stolen.

DRINK STATION & TOILET LOCATIONS

EVENT VILLAGE:

Toilets are located at the Event Village, both public and portable. The accessible public toilets are also located with 100m of the Event Village

ON COURSE:

 

Runner's World Pace Leaders

Pace Leaders 

Pace Groups give you the chance to run with a group under the guidance of an experienced run leader who runs at a calculated pace to get you to the finish line at a specific time. Visit the Runner’s World pace leader marquee 15 minutes before your race or go to the start line to meet the pace leaders.

The pace groups offered are as follows:

5KM PACE TIMES: 25 mins, 30 mins

10KM PACE TIMES: 40 mins, 45mins, 50mins, 55 mins, 60 mins, 70 mins

HALF MARATHON PACE TIMES: 1:30, 1:35, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:10

Pace leaders will be running on ‘gun time’, and will start in the suitable wave to that distance. Pacers will be wearing a balloon and race number with the goal time displayed for easy visibility.

PARTICIPANT INSTRUCTIONS

 

Participant instructions will be released 2 weeks prior to the event.

EVENT VILLAGE INFORMATION

FOOD & BEVERAGE OPTIONS

Following your run/walk, join us in the event village and grab some food and beverages from our onsite vendors.

PRESENTATIONS

The first three males and first three females in the 5km, 10km and 21km run will be presented with their medals on the morning of the event (based on gun time, so first three across the line).

All Kids Run participants receive a medal and a time, however, no place getter medals are awarded at the event is to encourage participation.
