RECORD your run

Head to the ‘My Virtual Run’ section of the app to start recording your run. Check out the ‘How it Works‘ section below for more information.

LET YOUR supporters follow you

Your family and friends can also download the Official App to follow your progress on your distance’s interactive course map as you complete your run.

They’ll be able to see your start time, distance covered, elapsed time, active time and finish time.

HOW IT WORKS

RECORDING YOUR RUN

To start tracking your run, head to the ‘My Virtual Run’ section of the app and log in using the Running No. and Registration ID details which will be emailed to you on 6 November 2020. 

You can only log in on one device, so please log in on the device you will use to complete your race.

Do not start tracking your run until you are ready to race. You can only do this once and cannot stop/start.

enable LOCATION

Please make sure your device has Location Services turned on. 

You will be prompted to enable Location Services by the app – please click ‘Allow’.

CHARGE YOUR DEVICE

Make sure your phone is fully charged, and you have a battery back-up in case your battery is running low during your run.

To preserve your device’s battery life, close all other apps and ensure your Wi-Fi is turned off.

 

YOUR DISTANCE

Once you have completed the distance you’ve registered for, the app will automatically stop tracking.

ELAPSED vs ACTIVE TIME

You can pause your run as many times as you like. When you pause your run, the ’active time’ will stop recording but your ‘elapsed time’ will continue. 

Once you’ve completed your distance, the elapsed time will be recorded as your official finish time.

GPS COVERAGE

Avoid running in areas with limited network availability to ensure you have full network and GPS coverage for the entire duration of your race.

COMPLETING YOUR RUN

The Canberra Times Marathon Festival will begin at 00:07:00 AEST on 7 November and end at 23:59:59 on Sunday 15 November. 

Head to ‘My Virtual Run’ and tap ‘Start My Run’ when you are ready to begin. 

SECONDARY DEVICE

As well as tracking your run on The Canberra Times Marathon Festival Virtual 2020 app powered by TCS, you should also track your run on a secondary device, such as a GPS watch or Strava, as a back-up option.

You will be able to upload the evidence from your secondary device by submitting your .gpx file via a unique result upload link emailed to you on 5 November.

FAQs

  • Do not start tracking your run until you are ready to race. You can only do this once and cannot stop/start.
  • Turn on your mobile data and turn off your Wi-Fi while you run.
  • Make sure your device’s battery is fully charged and not in low power mode.
  • To preserve your device’s battery life, close all other apps and ensure your Wi-Fi is turned off.
  • We recommend carrying a battery pack so you can ensure your phone remains charged (especially for longer distances).

When you are ready to begin your run, click ‘Start My Run’.

The app will stop once you have completed your chosen distance. If you’d like to change your distance for the virtual event, click here.

Once you have completed your race, you will be able to access your certificate, digital medal and use the selfie frames available on the app.

You will need to submit your results via a unique result upload link before 23:59:59 15 November. The link will be emailed to you on 5 November.

Please use that link to upload your .gpx file. from a secondary device if needed.

You can not change your distance in the app. 

If you’d like to run a distance other than the one listed in the app, please use your GPS watch or another unning app (e.g. Strava) to track your run and submit your results via the unique result upload link you received via email.

You can only track your run once.

Once you start tracking your run, you will not be able to start it again.

In this case, you will need to track your run using either your GPS watch or a running app (e.g. Strava) and submit your results via the unique result upload link you received via email.

Your friends and family can track your progress  via the ‘Tracking’ section of this app. They can search for you by your first name, last name or your Running No.

Tracking via the app is only available for participants completing the 10km, 21.1km, 42.2km and 50km distances.

The Canberra Times Marathon Festival Virtual 2020 app powered by TCS will need to be given permission to use location in your phone settings, make sure that it is allowing your precise location.

Tracking via the app is only available for the 10km, 21.1km, 42.2km and 50km distances.

Yes, the app will show as 100% complete when you have run the required distance and will automatically log your finish time. You will then be able to access your finisher certificate and digital medal.

If you choose to pause your run using the pause feature on The Canberra Times Marathon Festival Virtual 2020 app powered by TCS, your elapsed time will continue but your active time will pause.

You are able to pause as many times as you wish however the run must be completed within 24 hours of beginning.

Your elapsed time is what will be considered as your official finish time

To stop your run, tap ‘End My Run’ in your ‘My Virtual Run’. You will not receive an official finish time.

You can try to complete the distance again, as long as it is complete before 23:59:59, 15 November.

As well as using the Official App, please use a secondary device, such as a GPS watch or Strava, to record your run.

You will be able to upload the evidence from your secondary device through the unique results upload link emailed to you.

We will start to send out medals to all finishers from Wednesday 18 November. You should receive it within 10 business days. If you are an international participant, the postage time will vary.

In order for your finish time to be included in the Official Results for the event, you must upload a screenshot of your result screen via the unique result upload link emailed to you on 5 November. You can find more information here.

No, runners can run any time between 00:00:00 AEST on Saturday, 7 November until 23:59:59 Sunday, 15 November.
You will need to ask the runner you are tracking when they plan on completing their chosen distance.

There could be a few reason:

  • their phone battery has died
  • they have lost their GPS signal
  • or they may have paused their run.
