Catch train services to Flinders Street Station. Take the St Kilda Rd exit from the station and walk to Federation Square. Be aware that the start time of the Runner’s World Half Marathon may be before your earliest train service.

Route 3/3a, 16 and 67 trams will be affected by service changes from 10pm Friday 19 July to last tram Sunday 28 July 2019, due to tram track renewals.

Parking is extremely limited. We strongly recommend you use public transport to get to the event. If you’re driving please plan your route and parking location prior to the event.

Desmond Potts started playing cello as a child and was fortunate to have the celebrated Concert Cellist John Kennedy as his teacher. He has entertained on the streets bridges and subways of London and for many year the streets malls and lanes of Melbourne.

You can register at the Friendship Dash Event Village located in Birrarung Marr on Saturday, 27 July from 8:00am – 4:00pm OR at the Run Melbourne finish line located at Birrarung Marr on Sunday, 28 July from 6:00am.

You don’t have to notify Sole Motive if you are unable to run for any reason. However, there are no refunds for non-starters or non-finishers.

We do offer the following:

1 – Withdrawal from the event – receive a credit note: Withdrawals receive a credit note if they are made before 5:00pm, Friday 28 June 2019.  After this date, no credit notes will be issued. Credit notes are valid for 1 year from the date of issuing and valid for Sole Motive owned events and cannot be used for contracted events. Refunds will not be issued. When an entrant registers, they agree to the below terms and conditions;

T&C #15. I agree that there are no refunds, however, I may request a credit note for other SM owned events (minus $20 for admin fees) no later than 5pm, one month prior to the event. After this date, no credit notes will be issued. Credit notes will not be issued when downgrading distances. Credit notes will be valid for SM owned events and cannot be used for contracted events. Credit notes are valid for 1 year from the date of issuing.

2 – Downgrade from your race: Event downgrades can be made online up until Thursday, 25 July 2019. Please email Sole Motive runmelbourne@solemotive.com or phone (03) 9285 0600.

Refunds/credit notes cannot be issued for the difference in entry fee (if any) when downgrading your distance.

Please note: Any changes to your registration (name, distance, postage) will incur a $10 administration fee.

There is a $10 admin fee to transfer your entry into someone else’s name.

We strongly recommend catching public transport to and from the event. Runner’s World Half Marathon runners may have access to public transport using the night network to get to the event. View the Night Network Fact Sheet or visit the PTV Night Network website.

The below information is for the Docklands and CBD precinct.

Some residents of Docklands area will be land-locked by runner flow between 6:50am and 8:10am. Please see the attached map and plan your car use around this.

Full road closure of the following from 4:00am to no later than 8:30am:

  • Full Closure North and South bound lanes Queens Bridge St from Flinders St to Power St/Whiteman St – local access between Power St and Southbank Boulevard.
  • Full Closure North and South bound from Clarendon St/Spencer St from Collins St to Whiteman St/ Normandy St – local access between Normanby St and Southbank Boulevard.
  • Full Closure Collins St Harbour Esp to Navigation Drive.
  • Full Closure Harbour Esplanade from McCrae St to Collins St.
  • Full Closure Batmans Hill Drive between Wurundjeri Way and Collins St.
  • Full Closure Doepel Way from Caravel Lane to Docklands Drive. Local access to be maintained.

Partial closures of the following from 4:00am to no later than 9:00am:

  • North bound lanes of St Kilda Rd from Southbank Blvd to Flinders.
  • West bound lanes of Flinders St from Swanston St to Wurundjeri Way.
  • East bound lanes of Flinders St from Wurundjeri Way to Clarendon St.
  • West bound lanes of Collins St from Spencer St to Harbour Esp.
  • West bound lanes of Collins St Block and hold Harbour Esp to Navigation Drive.
  • East bound lanes McCrae St from Harbour Esplanade and Batmans Hill Drive.
  • North bound lanes Harbour Esplanade from McCrae St to Collins.
  • Full Closure Batmans Hill Drive from Wurundjeri Way and Collins St.
  • West bound lanes Bourke St – junction with Harbour Esp Block and hold whilst runners are crossing.

The below information is for the St Kilda Rd, Royal Botanical Gardens, Melbourne Park and Batman Ave precinct.

Please note the following changes to traffic conditions on Sunday, 28 July between 4:00am – 12:30pm:

Full road closure of the following:

  • Linlithgow Avenue (closed until noon).
  • Government House Drive (closed until noon).
  • Anzac Avenue (closed until noon).
  • Birdwood Avenue (closed until noon).
  • Dallas Brooks Drive (closed until noon).
  • Domain Rd –Local access only allowed from side streets heading west (closed until noon).
  • Anderson St – Local access only allowed from side streets heading south (closed until 10:50am).
  • Alexandra Ave, will be closed between Hoddle St and Swan Street Bridge (closed until 10:50am).
  • Alexandra Ave will be closed between Hoddle St and Morel Bridge-(local access permitted) (closed until 10:50am).
  • Batman Avenue, between Flinders Street and Olympic Boulevard (CityLink)(closed until 11:30am).
  • Jolimont Street, between Agnes Street and Jolimont Road.
  • Jolimont Road between Jolimont Street and Wellington Parade.
  • Wellington Parade South between Wellington Parade and Flinders Street (local traffic only).
  • Brunton Avenue (local traffic only).
  • Boathouse Drive (closed until 11:30am).

Partial closures of the following:

  • Westbound lanes of Flinders St from Spring St to Swanston St.
  • Westbound lanes of Flinders St from Swanston St to Queensbridge St (closed until 8:15am).
  • Southbound lane of Queensbridge St from Flinders St to Queensbridge Square (closed until 8:15am).
  • Northbound centre lanes of St. Kilda Rd from Flinders St to Southbank Blvd (closed until 8:15am).
  • Northbound service lanes of St. Kilda Rd from Flinders St to Southbank Blvd (closed until 8:15am).
  • Southbound lanes of St Kilda Road from Flinders St to Linlithgow Ave (closed until 12:30pm).
  • Southbound service lane of St Kilda Rd from Princes Bridge to Toorak Rd (closed until 12:00pm).
  • Northbound lanes of Domain St, between Bromby Street and Domain Road (closed until 10:45am).

From 6:00am Saturday 27, July to 12:30pm Sunday 28, July St Kilda Road southbound service lane between Princes Bridge to Linlithgow Avenue will be closed.

There will be several entertainment zones around the event course that will include music which will be in operation from 8am to 12noon on Sunday 28, July. Flinders St. will have announcements to runners from 6:45am. All sound will be monitored and kept to below 72 decibels.

We are currently working with City of Melbourne, Victoria Police, Vic Roads, Yarra Trams, Public Transport Victoria, City Link and other key stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of the event.

Car parking is extremely limited. We strongly recommend you use public transport to get to the event. If you’re driving please plan your route and parking location prior to the event.

If you are planning on driving, we recommend the following:

There are several non-ticketed parking areas on Sundays, however, these will fill quickly from 6:00am:

Alexandra Avenue (between Punt Rd and Morrell Bridge)

Once you find a park, along the Yarra and make your way to Birrarung Marr or Federation Square, please allow at least 10 minute’s walking time to get to the event site.

Fitzroy Gardens (Wellington Parade /Lansdowne St/Albert St/Clarendon St (city side only)

Once you find a park, walk to Wellington Parade Sth/Jolimont Terrace and continue down Flinders St to Federation Sq.

St Kilda Rd (Southbound lanes only North of Toorak Rd)

Once you find a park, walk along St Kilda Rd towards Federation Sq. Please allow at least 10-20 minutes walking time to get to the event site.

Paid Car Parks available:

  1. Arts Centre – access via South Bank Boulevard
  2. Federation Square Carpark – access via Russell St Extension.
  3. City Carparks

DO NOT PARK:

  • Around the Botanical Gardens
    St Kilda Rd – Northbound Lanes
  • MCG carparks are not open
  • Boathouse Drive

Bag drop is available at Federation Square (opposite the Main Stage). Please do not leave valuables in your bag. Run Melbourne accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen items. Attach the tear-off strip on the bottom of your race bib to your bag.

Keep your race bib so that you can collect your bag post-event.

Please note, This year we’re cutting down on single-use plastics and will not be providing plastic bags to put belongings in at the Bag Drop Marquee. Please remember to bring your own bag to the event.

Please refer to your distance page for information on start lines and your allocated Wave Start Zone.

Please note: Wave Start Zones will be in place at the start line of each race to ensure a smooth start for all participants. Entrants are asked to assemble in the appropriate zone as indicated by the letter printed on their race bib.

All distances have as strict course cut off time of 12pm. Cut off times are enforced to ensure the roads are re-opened in accordance with the event permits.

Children under four years of age are not required to pay the entry fee, however for safety and insurance reasons we do still require an entry form to be completed.

Run Melbourne uses ‘Realbuzz’ registrations, which offers a high level of protection and privacy for our entrants. However, there are now certain browsers and software versions that are unsupported by the Realbuzz registration system and may cause issues when attempting to register for all events. Please note the following to ensure that these issues do not occur when you are registering. Unsupported Internet Browsers include – ‘Internet Explorer 8’ and below.

If you register for the event before 11:59pm Sunday, 14 July 2019 you first name will be printed on your race bib.

We strongly discourage the use of headphones on the course. If you do choose to use headphones while running, please ensure that you are still able to hear what is happening around you.

No personal support riders or bike riders within the vicinity of runners are permitted on course. It is the responsibility of each athlete while running to ensure that no bikes are on the course near the runners. Any transgression will result in disqualification from the event.

The use of any type of drone or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is prohibited at the Event. Any person using a drone or UAV may be disqualified from the Event.

If you are running to lend a helping hand to someone who is unable to run without you, then please contact Sole Motive on (03) 9285 0600 or runmelbourne@solemotive.com.

All animals are strictly prohibited from entering any part of the course at any time.

If you’d like to run with your dog you can do so on Saturday, 27 July at the Run Melbourne Friendship Dash.

Prams are permitted in all events – please start at the back of your wave for safety reasons.

All runners in the Half-Marathon, the 10k and 5k races will be timed. If you wish to receive a finishing time all Run Melbourne participants must wear their RACE BIB. Your Race Bib contains a disposable timing chip, if you don’t wear your bib, you won’t receive an official time.

Please wear your race bib on the front of your top and ensure it is visible.

Net time is the time the participant crosses the start line until they cross the finish line. This is how results are displayed on the website, and will be used to award aged category places. These times are for participant information only and are not used to determine place getters. Placegetters are determined by gun time – the first three male and females across the finish line.

Live results will be available online from www.runmelbourne.com.au.

Participants who have nominated to receive SMS results and have paid an additional $2 will receive their results SMS on the evening of the event, and finishers will receive a certificate via email.

  • Half Marathon – 16 years or older on Race Day.
  • 10km – All children under the age of 13 years must be accompanied by an adult.
  • 5km – Children under the age of 13 years must be accompanied by an adult.
