The Sandy Point Half Marathon is held along the streets of Melbourne’s iconic bayside, starting at Green Point, Brighton. Held on Sunday 9 September 2018, the event offers three distances (Half-Marathon, 10k, 5k) and a bonus 3k kids run as you run along Beach Road. Stunning views of Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay will help you stay motivated to cross the finish line.

Send in your nomination to email@example.com before midnight Wednesday, 5 September to go into the draw. The winner will be presented with their Community Challenge Award after the 5K presentation at the event.
Register your team/club in the Sandy Point Half Marathon before midnight Wednesday, 5 September. The club/team registered with the largest number of competitors will WIN the VIP experience* and be contacted via email on Thursday, 6 September. *T&C’s Apply.

PRE EVENT INFORMATION
Is available in the side streets of Beach Road and in the Green Point, Brighton car park. Access to the side streets of Beach Road and the Green Point, Brighton car park is only available from the North end of Beach Road (the city end).
Car Park fees apply and are approximately $13.
Please park legally and be aware of parking restrictions in the area. Please carpool where possible.
The nearest train station to the event site is Brighton Beach (on the Sandringham line) and is just a short 3-minute walk to the event site. Please refer to Public Transport Victoria for further details and to plan your route.
Is available at the event site. Please make sure to bring your own lock to ensure your bike is secure.
The Sandy Point Half Marathon 2018 course is a IAAF-AIMS Certified Course.

EVENT START TIMES:
- Half Marathon – 7:40am
- 10km – 7:10am
- 5km – 8:15am
- 3km Kids Run – 9:30am
Please note event start times are subject to change.
Any participant who plans on running under 4min per K for any distance can apply for a preferred start (placed at the front of the pack). Please email Thomas@solemotive.com to apply.
CLUB / GROUP WAVES:

Pricing and Entry Information
*Race Weekend Entries: Register at the event site (Green Point, Brighton) at the Entries Marquee on Saturday, 8 September from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm OR on Sunday, 9 September from 5:45 am.
What are my options if I cannot participate?
You do not have to notify Sole Motive, the organiser if you are unable to run for any reason.
However, there are no refunds for non-starters or non-finishers. We do offer a credit note, or you can change your distance. If you would like to change your distance please email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like to withdraw and would like a credit note (minus $10 for administration fees) please email email@example.com by 5:00pm Friday 31 August 2018. After this time no credit notes will be offered. Credit notes are valid for Sole Motive events only and are valid for 1 year from the date of issue.
Please note: Credit notes will not be issued when downgrading distances.
- Half Marathon – Participants must be 16 years + on race day
- 10K – All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a guardian. The child’s guardian must be entered in the event.
- 5K – All children under the age of eight must be accompanied by a guardian. The child’s guardian must be entered in the event.
- 3K Kids Run – 4 years old to 14 years old will be accepted in the event. Children aged 5 years and under (on Sunday, 9 September 2018) must be accompanied around the course by a guardian. Guardians do not need to enter the 3K Kids run event and can participate free of charge.
WHAT'S ON OFFER
PRE EVENT RUN PROGRAMMING SESSION:
Join us on Saturday, 8 September for a FREE pre-race ‘Run Programming Session’ with Ben Westaway. Learn how to program your run training to maximise your performance and minimise injury. The session will be held from the Sole Motive Race Ready Store from 2:30pm at Green Point, Brighton.
PRE EVENT INFORMATION SESSION:
Come down to Green Point, Brighton on Saturday, 8 September for a FREE information session with a specialty run coach. Focusing on nutrition, course advice, pacing and race day tips. Time and coach to be announced.
Get your personalised iTab for your Sandy Point Half Marathon medal. An iTab lets you personalise your medal with your name and finish time. The specially personalised plate inserts into the marked area on the back of your medal. It looks neat, fits your medal and helps you remember your race day for years to come.
Marathon-Photos will be on the course and at the finish line at Run Melbourne capturing your race day moments. Look for their cameras and be sure to show your race number and smile!
After the event, visit the marathon-photos website, search for ‘Sandy Point Half Marathon and enter your surname or bib number to go straight to your online album and choose from a range of great products.
RACE PACK INFORMATION
Race Pack Postage and Collection
There are three options to collect your race kit:
Option 1 – Postage: If you wish to have your race pack posted to you, you must register before 11:59pm, Sunday 26th August. Please note, a delivery fee of $8.95 applies.
Option 2 – Pickup from Sole Motive:
If you wish to “collect from the Sole Motive store”, you must register before 11:59pm, Tuesday 28th August. Race packs will be available for collection from 10:00am, Thursday 30th August until Midday on Friday 7th September 2018.
Option 3 – Pickup on race day:
If you registered after 11:59pm Tuesday, 28 August you must collect your Race Pack from the event site. If you registered before then but cannot collect your Race Pack from the Sole Motive store you can also collect it from the event site.
Race Pack collection from the event site (Green Point, Brighton) is available at the following dates and times:
- Saturday, 8 September from 2:00pm – 5:00pm
- Sunday, 9 September from 5:45am
EVENT MERCHANDISE COLLECTION
PURCHASING OFFICIAL EVENT MERCHANDISE:
You can purchase the official Sandy Point Half Marathon merchandise from the Sole Motive Race Ready Store in the Event Village (Green Point, Brighton) on the following dates and times:
- Saturday, 8 September from 2:00pm – 5:00pm
- Sunday, 9 September from 5:45am
Please note, event merchandise styles and sizes are subject to availability.
You have the following options to collect the official Sandy Point Half Marathon merchandise:
- Collect it from the Sole Motive store (this option only applies if you ordered your merchandise before 11:59pm Tuesday, 28 August). It will be available for collection from 10:00am, Thursday 30th August until Midday on Friday 7th September 2018.
- Collect it from the event site (Green Point, Brighton) on Saturday, 8 Septemeber from 2:00pm – 5:00pm
- Collect it on Race Day from the event site (Green Point, Brighton) on Sunday, 9 September from 5:45am.
Please note, that no merchandise will be posted.
RACE DAY INFORMATION
An aerobics warm-up will commence 20 minutes prior to the start of each race and will be led by the team at Vision Personal Training.
Clothing storage is available during the run/walk. Your race number features a tear-off strip for you to attach to your backpack or clothing bag. Do not leave any valuables in the clothing bags as we cannot accept responsibility for valuables lost or stolen.
Please note, this year we’re cutting down on single-use plastic bags. Please remember to bring your own bag to the event.
DRINK STATION & TOILET LOCATIONS
Toilets are located at the Event Village, both public and portable. The accessible public toilets are also located with 100m of the Event Village
Runner's World Pace Leaders
What do Pace Leaders do?
Pace Groups give you the chance to run with a group under the guidance of an experienced run leader who runs at a calculated pace to get you to the finish line at a specific time.
Where do I meet my Pace Leader?
Visit the Runner’s World pace leader marquee 15 minutes before your race or go to the start line to meet the pace leaders.
What pace groups are offered?
The pace groups offered are as follows:
5KM PACE TIMES: 25 mins, 30 mins
10KM PACE TIMES: 40 mins, 45mins, 50mins, 55 mins, 60 mins, 70 mins
HALF MARATHON PACE TIMES: 1:25, 1:30, 1:35, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:10
Pace leaders will be running on ‘gun time’, and will start in the suitable wave to that distance. Pacers will be wearing a balloon and race number with the goal time displayed for easy visibility.
MEET THE PACERS
With open roads and a fast course, the Sandy Point Half Marathon is designed to help you reach your next PB! And with Pace Leaders to help you reach the finish line at a specific time, you’ll be sure to achieve your goals.
If you see our pacers on race day, make sure you go up and say “hello!”
With the motivation to start running to complete his first Ironman, Lim has no choice but to lace up, get out the door and just run. Lim didn’t exactly like running back then but over the year’s his fallen completely in love.
You’ll see Lim at Sandy Point pacing the Half Marathon distance.
Lim’s top race tip – “Your body is a lot stronger than you think. To achieve is all in your head, go out there and just believe in yourself.”
From a young age, Sarah loved running. After a stint as a triathlete, she’s now tackling longer running events and just enjoying the freedom, adventure and control that running gives you.
Sarah’s excited to be pacing the Half Marathon distance at Sandy Point where “you’ll see views as good as anywhere else in the world!”
Her top race day tip is to go into the race with positive thoughts – “Think light and fast, smile and be energised by the people you’re running with and the amazing scenery around you.”
A seasoned runner, Paul’s been running for many years and loves every distance from 5K through to ultra-races. Now, he enjoys nothing more than pacing fellow runners and helping them achieve their goals.
He’s looking forward to pacing the Half Marathon distance and owning the road with his run buddies on a spectacular part of the bay.
Paul’s top tip for race day is to run happy and relaxed – “smile, enjoy every step and you’ll go faster – I guarantee it!”

Fill up on a sausage in bread for $2.50 or add onion for $3.00 to satisfy your stomach.
VAGABOND COFFEE –
Are serving up hot and cold drinks along with a range of snacks:
Hot Drinks: Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Chai, Organic Tea
Cold Drinks: Iced Coffee, Iced Chocolate, Iced Matcha Tea, Bottled Water, Bottled Juice
Food: Selection of Sweet Pastries and Artisan Cakes, Pretzels
With heaps of options to choose from you won’t be disappointed.
The first three males and first three females in the 5km, 10km and 21km run will be presented with their medals on the morning of the event (based on gun time, so first three across the line).
All Kids Run participants receive a medal and a time, however, no place getter medals are awarded at the event is to encourage participation.
